FAPESP announces a call for proposals in partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), from the United Kingdom, the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET), from Argentina, the Comisión Nacional de Investigación Científica y Tecnológica (CONICYT), from Chile, and the Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica (CONCYTEC), from Peru.

The opportunity is part of NERC’s “Latin American Biodiversity Programme”, supported in the UK through the Newton Fund.

The aim of the program is to provide trans-regional level understanding of the role of biodiversity and ecosystem functioning and the services they provide. This call for proposals is led by NERC as a multi-lateral research call based on four thematic areas:

  • Understanding habitats and species.

  • Biodiversity for sustainable livelihoods and bio-economy.

  • Global climate change, biodiversity and ecosystems.

  • Maintaining and restoring natural capital.

Applications are not restricted to successful applicants in the first phase of the program.

Each proposal must have a principal investigator from the State of São Paulo, a principal investigator from the UK, and a principal investigator from another Latin American country participating in the call – Argentina, Chile or Peru.

Funding from FAPESP will follow the rules of Regular Research Awards, Thematic Projects, and Young Investigator Awards. Exceptions are detailed in the call’s text.

Submissions will be received until July 26, 2018. Researchers from the State of São Paulo must consult FAPESP in order to obtain an eligibility letter that will be attached to the proposal.
