FAPESP sign funding agreement with Cambridge

The São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) signed a cooperation agreement with the University of Cambridge, UK.
The agreement is valid for three years and was signed on September 2nd, 2013 by the president of FAPESP, Celso Lafer, and Duncan Maskell, head of School of Biological Sciences, representing The Chancellor, Masters and Scholars of The University of Cambridge.
Through the Cooperation Agreement, FAPESP and Cambridge will implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers of the University and of the State of São Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
For each of the research projects that are approved, the University of Cambridge will assume the funding of research teams from the University and FAPESP of the research teams of Sao Paulo, Brazil, in all cases according to their national rules and regulations and budget availability.
The University of Cambridge will contribute up to £30,000.00 and FAPESP will contribute with the equivalent in Brazilian Reais to up to £30,000.00 for funding of collaborative activities under the agreement.
With more than 18,000 students from all walks of life, nearly 9,000 staff, 31 Colleges and 150 Departments, Faculties, Schools and other institutions, the University of Cambridge is one of the most prestigious universities in the world.
On the same day the agreement was signed, Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz, scientific director of FAPESP, presented a lecture at the University of Cambridge about "Opportunities for research collaboration with the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), Brazil".
Brito Cruz explained to the audience the various ways in which FAPESP facilitates and supports international research collaborations. Researchers in several academic areas interested in collaborations with Brazil –and specifically with universities or research institutes in the State of São Paulo— attended the lecture.
