New Brazil-UK Funding Awards For Science Projects

FAPESP (The São Paulo Research Foundation) announced on September 25th, 2013, at FAPESP Week London, a raft of new scientific agreements and collaborations with UK higher learning institutions, bringing to 14 the number of British universities with which it has agreements.
FAPESP and British Council made public results of a Call for Proposals (CFP) for joint research by postgraduates at seven British Universities and their counterparts at universities and institutes in the state of São Paulo, Brazil.
With the British Council, FAPESP announced that postgraduate projects in the social sciences, public health and technology sectors. The value of the awards was not disclosed. The objective is sharing competencies and exchange among researchers in the UK and Brazil.
Joint FAPESP-British Council funding was also announced for seven information-sharing workshops in a number of fields. Each of the scientific gatherings will be coordinated by two researchers, representing the São Paulo and British organisations involved in the process, focusing on specific areas or interdisciplinary themes.
During FAPESP Week conference the São Paulo based organization also announced a number of new agreements for postgraduate research cooperation with: University of Manchester, University of Cambridge and Imperial College, London.
During the conference, FAPESP also announced that in coming months it will issue new CFPs with several other UK universities: University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, Keele University and York University.
In separate developments, FAPESP also announced multiple new CFPs with two UK universities with which the Brazil-based funding agency maintains links.
Together with King’s College, University of London, FAPESP issued a fourth CFP in all knowledge areas with a joint value of £12,000 p.a open until 27/01/2014.
Together with the University of Edinburgh, FAPESP issued a first CFP in all knowledge areas with a joint value of £10,000 p.a. open until 10/02/2014.
Together with the University of Southampton, FAPESP issued a CFP open until 10/11/2013.
FAPESP now retains joint agreements with all the seven UK Research Councils and with 14 British universities. These are:
Bangor, Keele, Bath, Birmingham, Cambridge, East Anglia, Nottingham, Edinburgh, Southampton, Surrey, York, Institute of Education (University of London) King’s College (University of London), and Imperial College (London).
