FAPESP and BG announce call for proposals Versão em português
FAPESP and BG Brasil announce a call for proposals to establish a Research Centre for Gas Innovation in São Paulo.
The Research Centre will be responsible for the management of three discipline based research programmes: Engineering, Physical Chemistry and Energy Policy and Economics. The centre will also address the current technology challenges that Brazil faces in maximising the penetration of natural gas.
The focus of the centre at a strategic level will be to undertake R&D into: New applications for natural gas (including the use of gas in an energy efficient manner); The synergies between gas and other emerging technologies; Studies that look at the potential for reducing the carbon intensity of natural gas and the associated cost and environmental benefits.
The centre will be the first of its kind to be located in a tropical region and will aim to become the world’s leading research centre for gas innovation and its role in future energy systems.
It is also envisaged that in future the centre may also sponsor the development of further education courses (Bachelor and Masters Level) and vocational training for new entrants and employees in the natural gas industry in Brazil.
Funding by FAPESP and BG Brasil will be awarded initially for a maximum of three years. Renewal may be for up to two further years. The investments from FAPESP and BG Brasil is not expected to be the sole source of funding and exclusive support for the Centre.
The deadline for proposal submission is March, 10th, 2014.
