FAPESP and Intel announce new call for proposals Versão em português
FAPESP and Intel announce a new call for proposals to select and fund academic research on hardware implementation aspects of post-quantum cryptography.
Open to public or private higher education or research institutions in the State of São Paulo, it is the third call under the cooperation agreement between the institutions.
With the rapid development of quantum computing technology comes the potential for polynomial-time algorithms for solving the ostensibly hard mathematical problems underlying modern public-key cryptography (integer factorization, discrete logarithm, elliptic curve discrete logarithm).
Post-quantum cryptography explores alternative public-key algorithms that are believed to be resistant to quantum computer attacks utilizing Shor’s algorithm.
The new call requests proposals for research leading to a better comparative understanding of post-quantum cryptography approaches and new optimizations techniques based on metrics like implementation complexity, performance, energy requirements, code size, data structure size, storage requirements, and vulnerability to side channel attack.
Proposed investigations, while hardware-focused in the issues they explore, may leverage software for rapid development and maximum flexibility in constructing prototypes and performance studies.
FAPESP and Intel contemplate funding a cluster of 2-year grant proposals. Each would be renewable annually contingent upon satisfactory progress and continued promise in research direction.
The total amount available for this call is US$ 200,000. The last date for receiving proposals is November 13, 2015.
