GUIDELINE – UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA DAVIS
Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from UC Davis
FAPESP and UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA DAVIS – UC Davis, signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research in December 2012, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the UC Davis, EUA, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as an action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and UC Davis make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers, under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2015 and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from UC Davis side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
a. Members of the University of California, Davis faculty with PI status.
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:
a. Members of the University of California, Davis faculty with PI status.
2. Fields of knowledge
The present Call invites Research Proposals in the Humanities and Social Sciences.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is 24 months.
4. Funding principles
FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of $10,000.00 (ten thousand dollars) per proposal per year and UC Davis will provide funding of up to $10,000.00 (ten thousand dollars) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties www.fapesp.br/en/7561.
5. Proposal Characteristics
5.1 The proposal shall consist of:
a. A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content,written jointly by the Principal Investigator to FAPESP and his/her colleague, the Principal Investigator at the Partner Institution. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to the Partner Institution.
b. Submission forms and additional documents as requested as required by FAPESP and/or by the partner institutions.
5.2 The Research Project must include the following:
a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the exchange activities to be carried out will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried by the partner researcher abroad;
b. A timeline for each specific exchange mission, considering the limit of missions and funding established in this Call;
c. Performance indicators for the planned activities;
d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;
e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for the Partner Institution and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses and visits to other institutions that carry out research activities in cognate areas.
5. Submission of proposals to UC Davis
Submissions to UC DAVIS require that the completed application be saved as a single PDF file and submitted by e-mail within the deadline of this Call. All proposals should be sent to Global Affairs via email attachment to Jennie Konsella-Norene at jknorene@ucdavis.edu.
7. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and UC Davis (http://globalaffairs.ucdavis.edu/funding/fapesp.html) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.
8. Contract for selected projects by UC Davis
Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award.
