SPRINT - 4th Edition 2016: Guidelines University of Illinois
Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership
with researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign
FAPESP and the University of Illinois signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on April 13, 2015, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the University of Illinois at Urbana - Champaign in the United States and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as a continuation of this fruitful collaboration, FAPESP and the University of Illinois make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers, under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 4th Edition 2016 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42016) and hereinafter set forth.
The Illinois Principal Investigator must provide a complete application that includes the Research Project as described above, as well as the Additional Documents and forms requested by FAPESP in the in sections 6.2.1 a), c), d), e) and a copy of the Letter of Agreement as established in section 6.2.3) from the Sprint Call for Proposal at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42016.
1. Eligibility from University of Illinois side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
a. All University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC) full time faculty, who are developing a research project with a faculty member in São Paulo. Open to all disciplines.
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call
a. Full time faculty, from all disciplines, as well as post-doctoral fellows included as participant in proposals submitted by full time faculty. Respecting the principal of reciprocity, FAPESP will also accept the participation PhD fellows in scientific missions. The PhD fellows must have an ongoing FAPESP fellowship during the planned exchange mission. Eligibility of research partners in the State of Sao Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 7.1 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42016)
b. The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is up to 24 months.
4. Funding principles
FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of US$10,000 per proposal per year and UIUC will provide funding of up to US$10,000 per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/9442).
5. Proposal characteristics f or University of Illinois researchers
University of Illinois faculty submitting proposals should follow the guidelines set forth for Lemann Institute Collaborative Research and Illinois/FAPESP Grants: http://www.clacs.illinois.edu/lemann/research.aspx#collaborative .
The proposal shall be composed of:
5.1 A Research Project having a maximum of (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign. The Research Project must include the items included in the item 6.1 at (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42016)
5.2 The following additional documents required by the University of Illinois at Urbana – Champaign:
a. Letter of agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42016). The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature.
6. Submission of proposals to the University of Illinois
Submissions can only be accepted by the Lemann Institute for Brazilian Studies at UIUC.
7. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and the University of Illinois Lemann Institute (http://www.clacs.illinois.edu/lemann/) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.
8. Contract for selected projects by the University of Illinois
Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth for Lemann Institute Collaborative Research and Illinois/FAPESP Grants: http://www.clacs.illinois.edu/lemann/research.aspx#collaborative .
9. Contract for selected projects by UIUC
Selected proposals will subject to the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the partner institution.
