SPRINT - 2nd Edition 2017: Guidelines Queen's University of Belfast
Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers of Queen’s University, Belfast (QUB)
FAPESP and Queen’s University, Belfast (QUB) signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research in June 2104, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from Queen’s, UK, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, an action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and QUB make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2017 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017) and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from QUB side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
Academic staff at Queen’s University, Belfast with a contract of employment for the full length of the proposed project
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call
Researcher travel, attendance at workshops, seminars & short courses and visits to institutions.
Note:
a. The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.
b. Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017).
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is 24 months.

5. Funding principles
5.1 FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £5,000 (five thousand pounds) per proposal per year and QUB will provide funding of up to £5,000 (five thousand pounds) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties ( en/8738).
5.2 FAPESP and PARTNER will fund a maximum of 04 approved proposals.
6. Proposal characteristics for QUB researchers:
The proposal shall be composed of:
6.1 A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at QUB. The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to QUB. The Research Project must include the items included in the item 6.1 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017.
6.2 The following additional documents required by QUB:
a. We do not have any additional stipulations for our applicants at submission stage
b. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.2 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature .
7. Submission of proposals to QUB
Submissions can only be accepted electronically. A single, combined pdf must be sent by email to Nikki Kernaghan no later than 5 pm, Monday 31 st July, 2017.
8. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and QUB (http://www.qub.ac.uk/Research/) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.
9. Contract for selected projects by QUB
a. Selected proposals will subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award.
b. Successful Queen’s applicants will be required to provide a brief annual report of their project, additional funding will be dependent upon submission and acceptance of this report. A template for the report will be provided by Queen’s.
10. Grant cancellation
QUB may cancel funding of a Queen’s researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the Pro Vice Chancellor for Research Enterprise and Post-graduate Affairs, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
