SPRINT - 2nd Edition 2017: Guidelines University of Bath
Specific requests for proposals submission from researchers of the University of Bath
FAPESP and the University of Bath signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on the 18th February 2013, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the University of Bath, UK and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as a continuation of this fruitful collaboration, FAPESP and the University of Bath make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers, under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2017 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017) and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from University of Bath side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call
Academic staff at University of Bath with a contract of employment for the full length of the proposed project.
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call
Academic staff in the Education & Research job family (www.bath.ac.uk/hr/working/pay-reward/job-families/index.html, considering faculty and postdoctoral researchers)
Note:

The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017).
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is up to 24 months.

5. Funding principles
5.1 FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £5,000.00 (five thousand Pounds) per proposal per year and the University of Bath will provide funding of up to £5,000.00 (five thousand Pounds) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/7503).
5.2 FAPESP and Bath will fund a maximum of 05 approved proposals.
6. Proposal characteristics f or University of Bath researchers
6.1 The proposal shall be composed of:
a. A Research Project having a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written jointly by the Principal Investigator to FAPESP and his/her colleague, the Principal Investigator at the Partner Institution . The Research Project must be written in English. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and another (identical) copy to the Partner Institution (see 5.2, below).
b. Submission forms and additional documents as required by FAPESP for the Brazilian submission can be found on the relevant SPRINT call for proposals (www.fapesp.br/en/8603).
6.2 The Research Project must include the following:
a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the exchange activities to be carried out will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried by the partner researcher abroad;
b. A timeline for each specific exchange mission, considering the limit of missions and funding established in this Call;
c. Performance indicators for the planned activities;
d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;
e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for the Partner Institution and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses and visits to other institutions that carry out research activities in cognate areas;
6.3. To the University of Bath, the proposal must include the following items:
The University of Bath Principal Investigator must provide a complete application that includes the Research Project as described above, as well as the Additional Documents requested by FAPESP:
a. Research Proposal Form;
b. CV Summaries of the Principal Investigators on both sides and of all candidates for the exchange activities (guidelines at www.fapesp.br/en/6351);
c. Budget forms including the requested funding from both sides;
d. Worksheet with all candidates for the exchange missions (according to those planned in timeline of the project - item 6.1 - b);
e. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call42016. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature .
7. Submission of proposals to the University of Bath
Submissions can only be accepted by email to internationalfunding@bath.ac.uk
8. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and University of Bath (www.bath.ac.uk) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.
9. Contract for selected projects by the University of Bath
Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in the letter of award.
10. Grant cancellation
Bath may cancel funding of a Bath researcher, if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, at the discretion of the institution, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
