SPRINT - 2nd Edition 2017: Guidelines University of Manchester
Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers of the University of Manchester
FAPESP and the University of Manchester signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on 26th September 2013, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the University of Manchester, United Kingdom, and from the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as an action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and the University of Manchester make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2017 ( www.fapesp.br/sprint/call2201 7) and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from the University of MANCHESTER side
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
Permanent academic staff, or fixed term staff, or research staff whose contract exceeds the duration of the project.
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call
As above.
Note:

The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the exchange activities.

Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017).
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields of knowledge.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is up to 24 months.

5. Funding principles
5.1 FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £10,000 (Ten thousand pounds sterling) per proposal per year and the University of Manchester will provide funding of up to £10,000 (Ten thousand pounds sterling) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/8086).
5.2 FAPESP and Manchester will fund a maximum of 13 approved proposal.
6. Proposal characteristics for University of MANCHESTER researchers:
Applicants from the University of Manchester must submit the following:
a. Research Proposal Form
b. Case for Support (maximum 2 pages)
c. Budget sheet
d. CV for each participant in the partnership (maximum of 4 pages)
e. Worksheet
f. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.2 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call22017. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature .
7. Submission of proposals to University of MANCHESTER
Submissions can only be accepted by Victoria Holt, Head of Research Support Services, Faculty of Science and Engineering, via Vicky.holt@manchester.ac.uk.
8. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and the University of Manchester (http://www.staffnet.manchester.ac.uk/fse/academic-services/research/research-support-services/funding-opportunities/) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs.
9. Contract for selected projects by the University of Manchester
Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in the letter of award.
10. Grant cancellation
The University of Manchester may cancel the funding of the project, if during the project’s duration misconduct of sufficient gravity takes place. The cancellation of any funding is at the discretion of the Associate Vice President for Internationalisation and does not affect any other unrelated research activity.
