Specific requests for proposals submissions from researchers of the University of Warwick
FAPESP and University of Warwick, signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on 19th June 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from the University of Warwick, UK, and from the State of São Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as an action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and University of Warwick make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of faculty and postdoctoral researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 1st Edition 2018 (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12018) and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from University of Warwick side
1.1. Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
a. The Call is open to all academic Departments, Research Institutes, Centres and Groups. Strong preference will be given to projects that will be likely to promote sustained collaborative activity beyond the end point of the award period.
b. The Principal Investigator must be a permanent or fixed-term member of academic staff (with at least 12 months left on employment contract as of 1st January 2018, ending no earlier than the end of the period for which funds are awarded).
1.2. Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:
a. The project lead may take part in exchange activities. Other participants may include post-doctoral Fellows and PhD students where appropriate.
(i) Respecting the principle of reciprocity, FAPESP will accept the participation of PhD fellows in scientific missions. Brazilian PhD candidates must have an ongoing FAPESP fellowship during the planned exchange mission to the partner institution.
Note:

The proposals must aim to respect the principle of reciprocity with regard to academic qualifications of those who will take part in the activities.

Eligibility of research partners in the State of São Paulo should observe the items 3.1 and 4.2 of FAPESP call (www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12018).
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields and disciplines.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is 2 years (starting from 1st August 2018).

5. Funding principles
5.1. The total funding available on the Warwick side is £20,000 per year for two years. FAPESP will provide funding of up to the equivalent of £10,000 (ten thousand pounds Sterling) per proposal per year and the University of Warwick will provide funding of up to £10,000 (ten thousand pounds Sterling) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover mobility and research-related expenses, under the provisions of Clause 5 of the Scientific Cooperation Agreement established by the Parties (www.fapesp.br/en/8748).
5.2. FAPESP and University of Warwick will fund a maximum of 2 approved proposals.
6. Proposal characteristics for University of Warwick researchers
The proposal shall be composed of:
a. A Research Projecthaving a maximum of five (5) pages of scientific content, written in English jointly by the Principal Investigator at the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo and the Principal Investigator at the University of Warwick. One copy of the Research Project shall be sent to FAPESP and an identical copy to the University of Warwick.
b. Additional documents required by University of Warwick.
6.1. As described at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12018, the Research Project must include the following items:
a. A substantive description of the exchange activities, emphasizing their relevance. The proposal must state clearly how the activities to be carried out by each team will contribute to the ongoing research project funded by FAPESP and to the research being carried out by the partner researcher at University of Warwick;
b. Detailed schedule of the exchange missions to be carried out by the partner team at the São Paulo institution and the São Paulo team at the University of Warwick;
c. Performance indicators for the planned activities, indicating the expected results;
d. A description of each candidate’s contribution to the mission, explaining their expertise to carry out the foreseen activities;
e. Foreseen actions that will add to the impact of the exchange for the University of Warwick and for the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo, e.g. by means of seminars, short courses etc.;
f. Description of how the Principal Investigators in São Paulo and in the University of Warwick intend to prepare a joint research project, resulting from the exchange activities developed from the proposal submitted in this Call, to be submitted to research funding agencies accessible in their regions in order to create a medium-long-term collaboration (up to one page).
6.2. The following additional documents required by University of Warwick:

c. Letter of Support from PI’s Head of Department
7. Letter of Agreement of the Host Institution in the State of São Paulo to which the PI from São Paulo is affiliated. The same document is required by FAPESP in item 6.2.3 at www.fapesp.br/sprint/call12018. The Letter of Agreement may be delivered after the notification of results of this call for proposals and before the grant agreement signature.
8. Submission of proposals to University of Warwick
Submissions can only be accepted by email, by 30th April 2018, to the following email address: fapesp@warwick.ac.uk.
9. Result of the analysis
The results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and University of Warwick (www2.warwick.ac.uk/global/partnerships/funding/internal/fapesp) web portals and by means of a communication to the interested PIs after 27th July 2018.
10. Contract for selected projects by University of Warwick
Selected proposals will be subject to the conditions set forth in a letter of award.
11. Grant cancellation
FAPESP or University of Warwick may cancel funding if, during the grant timeframe, a significant event justifies its cancellation in the assessment of the Joint Steering Committee, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
