Luiz Paulo Kowalski

M.D. from the Medical School of the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) (1979), MS degree (1986) and PhD degree (1989) in Otorhinolaryngology from Universidade Federal de São Paulo (Unifesp). During the Post-Graduation training he completed a 6-months Observership in Head and Neck Surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (1988), in United States.

Full Professor and Chairman of Head and Neck Surgery at the University of São Paulo Medical School (2019-present). Director of the Department of Head and Neck Surgery and Otorhinolaryngology (1990-2020) and Head of the Head and Neck Tumors Reference Center (2020-present), A C Camargo Cancer Center.

Vice-chair of the Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group (LACOG) - Head and Neck and Member of the Council of the Head and Neck Cancer International Group (HNCIG). Past President of the Brazilian Head and Neck Surgery Society (2005-2007) and International Academy of Oral Oncology (2013-2015).

Committed to surgical practice, research and medical education, he has special interests on head and neck surgical oncology, multidisciplinary management of cancer, clinical and translational research, and prognostic factors.

He was the advisor of 47 PhD thesis and 43 MS thesis and published more than 700 peer reviewed articles (590 in international peer reviewed journals), written 141 book chapters, and edited 13 books. He has more than 16,000 citations in Web of Science, and an H factor of 60.
