FAPESP and NWO to support research on extreme heat and water events Versão em português
New call for proposals will select collaborative research investigating the effects of climate change on health.
FAPESP and the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) announce the launch of the call for proposals “Extreme Heat and Water Events: Mitigating Adverse Health Effects of Climate Change in Cities 2024”.
The aim of the call is to select and fund collaborative research that investigates the effects of climate change on health, specifically how extreme heat and water events affect human health and well-being in an urban context.
Collaborative research should focus on diseases, cover a broad perspective on the dynamics of cities and advance scientific knowledge, in addition to enhancing knowledge exchange between researchers and stakeholders.
The projects must not only investigate the impacts of extreme heat and water events on health, but also seek innovative solutions that are integrated into the lives and environments of high-risk and vulnerable populations. Researchers may choose to focus their proposals on extreme heat-related or water-related events, or a combination of both.
This is the tenth call for proposals launched under the cooperation agreement between the institutions, signed in 2012.
FAPESP and NWO will fund research projects involving researchers from both countries, who must work closely with private, public or semi-public organizations to form research consortia focused on developing solutions that have practical applicability.
Proposals submitted to FAPESP must meet the general conditions of the Thematic Project Grant or Young Investigator Grant modality. The maximum budget allowed is R$4 million per project.
Exceptionally in this call for proposals, the Thematic Project may include additional master's and doctoral scholarships, in addition to those already provided for in the modality. The Young Investigator Grant may include additional doctoral and postdoctoral scholarships, in addition to those already provided for in the modality.
The deadline for submitting complete proposals to NWO and FAPESP (via SAGe) is March 4, 2025.
FAPESP and NWO will organize a online event to promote relationships between researchers and other interested parties in the field from Brazil and the Netherlands on December 12, 2024. Information about the event and registration will be published on the FAPESP and NWO websites.
Interested researchers can submit a partnership request form used for matchmaking purposes. Those who do may be given the opportunity to pitch their research ideas. Submission is optional and should be sent to chamada-nwo@fapesp.br by November 21, 2024.
