FAPESP announces result of call for proposals with British research council Versão em português

Six projects were selected from proposals submitted in response to a call for proposals launched in conjunction with the Medical Research Council, aimed at supporting collaborations in AI for biomedical and health applications.

FAPESP announces the result of a call for proposals launched last April with the Medical Research Council (MRC) – one of the United Kingdom’s research councils linked to UK Research & Innovation (UKRI), the British scientific funding agency. The call, which aimed to support collaborative artificial intelligence (AI) research in health, selected six proposals.

The call had projects selected in the two categories established for submissions: the first granted Regular Research Grants for new (or early-stage) partnerships between early-career researchers from São Paulo state and England; the second used the Thematic Projects modality to fund large-scale research in Brazil and the United Kingdom led by more established groups.

The selected projects must last three years, starting in February 2025 and concluding by the end of January 2028. With the result, FAPESP and MRC reinforce the general objective of the call – to support research that generates real-world impact by addressing urgent health needs and barriers to the use of AI in biomedical and health research.
