1. Introduction

2. Partners
This call is supported by Belmont Forum and FACCE-JPI (Joint Programming Initiative on Agriculture, Food Security and Climate Change) selected countries including FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation) for the participation of researchers in the State of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

4. Funding Instruments
This call offers opportunities for two types of projects:
4.1 Type 1 / Community building projects (12 to 18 months for up to €300,000.00 – three hundred thousand euros) to be selected with a one-step procedure (Full Proposal).
4.2 Type 2 / Medium- to long-term collaborative research projects (3 to 5 years for up to €3,000,000.00 (three million euros) to be selected with a two-steps procedure (Pre-proposals and Full Proposals).
5. FAPESP funding
Depending on all conditions of eligibility and peer review, the budget earmarked by FAPESP for this Call will be equivalent of up to €1,500,000.00 (one million five hundred thousand euros) including Type 1 and Type 2 projects.

7. General Guidelines for the State of São Paulo Researchers:
7.1. FAPESP will fund only the State of São Paulo (Brazil) partner of any successful trans-national collaboration.
7.2. No submissions should be made directly to FAPESP at the closing dates mentioned above. Only the lead principal investigator of each consortium will submit the joint proposal.
7.3. After the submission phase of the Full Proposals, the Principal Investigator from the state of São Paulo of a project consortium will be individually contacted for further instructions on how to submit the due documentation to FAPESP.
7.4. Proposals will be processed at FAPESP in the following award schemes:
7.4.1. Type 1 projects: as Regular Research Award (www.fapesp.br/137)
7.4.2. Type 2 projects: by the choice of the proponent as either:
a. Thematic Project Research Award (www.fapesp.br/176);
b. Young Investigator Award (www.fapesp.br/en/6251).
7.5 Exceptionally for this Call for Proposals, researchers that are already in receipt of an ongoing Regular Research Award from FAPESP are eligible to submit Type 1 proposals.
7.6 Exceptionally for this Call for Proposals, researchers that are already in receipt of an ongoing Regular Research Award from FAPESP are eligible to submit Type 2 proposals as a Thematic Project Award. Please note that for Thematic Project Awards there is a qualification phase (“enquadramento”) upon submission and researchers interested in this scheme are encouraged to consult FAPESP before initiating the preparation of a joint proposal.
7.7 For Type 2 submissions as a Thematic Project Research Award, researchers that are already in receipt of an ongoing Thematic Project Research Award must contact FAPESP prior to initiating the preparation of a joint proposal.
7.8 Submission as Type 2 - Young Investigator Award is offered for researchers not in receipt of such grants and who have a strong research record as post-docs anywhere in the world and are willing to initiate their careers in a university or research institute in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Brazilian nationality is not a requirement. Please note that for Young Investigator Awards there is a qualification phase (“enquadramento”) upon submission and researchers interested in this scheme are encouraged to consult FAPESP before initiating the preparation of a joint proposal.
7.9 Exceptionally for this Call for Proposals submission as Type 2 - Young Investigator Award may have a duration of up to 5 years.
7.10 All other eligibility rules and conditions except as mentioned above will apply for each of the mentioned award schemes.
7.11 Budgets must follow the rules for the chosen scheme and must include the corresponding Additional Benefits and Overheads.
7.12 FAPESP has the ultimate responsibility for decisions of funding recommendations for the selected proposals, which will confirm any budgetary constraints on submitted projects prior to a final decision on an award being made by the review process as described by the Call for Proposals on BELMONT FORUM official web site.
