FAPESP and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) of the United States maintain a Memorandum of Understanding to further promote the welfare of the human species and to contribute to the building of more stout health security of the global community as an integral whole, the Participants intend to strengthen cooperation, through such activities as the following:

• Sharing information to develop collaborative programs on mutual research areas of interest;

• developing and funding joint research projects;

• promoting the training of research personnel; and,

• supporting activities that strengthen or establish links between São Paulo and U.S. scientists and institutions, such as scientific workshops, personnel exchanges, and research and development administrative visits.

The Second Memorandum of Understanding was signed on August 15, 2024 and valid until 2029.

The First Memorandum of Understanding was signed on December 23, 2014 and valid until 2019.
