GUIDELINE University of Miami (UM)
Specific requests for submission of proposals in partnership with researchers from UM
FAPESP and the University of Miami (UM) signed a Cooperation Agreement for Research on October 14, 2014, aiming to implement scientific and technological cooperation between researchers from UM (Miami, FL, USA), and from the State of São Paulo, Brazil, through the funding of joint research projects.
Under the referred Agreement, as a first action to promote such collaboration, FAPESP and UM make public this Call for Proposals for the exchange of researchers under the terms and conditions of the SPRINT 2nd Edition 2015 www.fapesp.br/en/9365 and hereinafter set forth.
1. Eligibility from UM side:
1.1 Eligibility to submit proposals within the scope of this Call:
PI must be regular faculty and/or full-time research faculty members with existing or new research collaborations with researchers in São Paulo, Brazil, and must maintain this status for the duration of the proposed activities.
1.2 Eligibility for the exchange activities within the scope of this Call:
Principal Investigators as well as Associated Researchers from UM who are directly involved in an ongoing or new research project. Participating UM postdoctoral fellows and PhD students must hold a UM fellowship/scholarship during the planned exchange mission.
2. Fields of knowledge
This Call for Proposals invites research proposals in all fields.
3. Duration of the project for the exchange of researchers
The maximum duration of each project is 24 months, non-extendable. Projects shorter than 12 months will not be considered.
4. Funding principles
a. FAPESP will provide funding of up to (US$10,000.00) per proposal per year and UM will provide funding of up to (US$10,000.00) per proposal per year, for the duration of the grant to cover research-related mobility expenses.
b. As necessary for the selected projects, and included within the funding described in a. (above), UM will provide funds for travel (air tickets) and living allowances for UM researchers from the US visiting the State of São Paulo.
c. FAPESP and UM agree to award up to five (5) proposals under this call, depending on the quality and the scientific merit of the submitted projects.
5. Proposal characteristics
The UM Principal Investigator must provide a complete application that includes:
1. Cover Sheet
2. Research Proposal, as described at item 6.1 of the CFP, including:
a) Goals/Objectives of the research collaboration
b) Detailed activity description
c) Benefits of/Requirement for the internal collaboration
d) Budget and detailed budget justification
e) Plans for sustained activity after the funding period is over
f) Proposals should be written in Arial, 11 pts, no less than 1 line spacing, and 0.5” margins
g) Supporting Material (e.g. images, letters of support etc.)

6. Submission of proposals
UM requires the completed application to be saved as a single PDF file, which is to be sent to Dr. Karin Scarpinato, kds44@miami.edu, by the proposal deadline.
7. Result of the analysis
Final results will be announced on FAPESP (www.fapesp.br) and UM (uresearch.miami.edu and e-veritas) web portals and by means of a communication to the applicant investigators.
8. Contract for selected projects
8.1 To UM
Release of funds to the PI from UM will be subject to completion of a Research Grant Acceptance Form (RGAF).
9. Grant cancellation
FAPESP or UM may cancel funding if, during the grant timeframe, a fact is of sufficient gravity to justify cancellation, without prejudice of any other appropriate actions.
