Ana Maria Fonseca de Almeida is a Full Professor at the School of Education and one of the coordinators of Focus (Research Group on Education, Institutions, and Inequalities), University of Campinas, São Paulo.

She holds a B.A. in Education, Federal University of Minas Gerais, a Master’s Degree in Sociology, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), Paris, and a Ph.D. degree in Education, University of Campinas, São Paulo.

Her research examines the role of education in the intergenerational transmission of inequality.

She is the author of As Escolas dos Dirigentes Paulistas (2009), as well as articles and book chapters. She co-edited A Escolarização das Elites (2002) and Circulação Internacional e Formação Intelectual das Elites Brasileiras (2004).

She has been visiting professor at the EHESS, Paris, and FLACSO, Buenos Aires, and visiting scholar at Stanford University.

She is a researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq).
